Diesel Xtrem uses artificial intelligence to help students navigate their CDL journey. This page explains how DX AI works, what data is involved, and its limitations.
What Is DX AI?
DX AI is an AI-powered guidance feature built into the Diesel Xtrem platform. It helps prospective and enrolled students understand CDL program options, preparation steps, and general trucking industry information. DX AI is powered by OpenAI's language models and is designed specifically for CDL preparation context.
How DX AI Works
DX AI offers two types of responses: (1) Preset answers — these are pre-written, curated responses to common questions. No AI processing occurs and no data is sent to any external service. (2) Custom questions — when you type a custom question and submit it, your question is sent to OpenAI for processing. A response is generated and returned to you. We do not store your custom questions or AI responses beyond the current session.
What Data Is Shared With OpenAI
When you submit a custom question, the following is sent to OpenAI: your question text, a system prompt containing general CDL program context (no personal student data), and a per-IP daily usage counter (not linked to your identity). We do not send your name, email, payment information, or any personally identifiable information to OpenAI. OpenAI processes this data under their API data usage policy with store: false — meaning your inputs are not used to train OpenAI models.
Limitations and Accuracy
DX AI is designed to provide general guidance only. It is not a substitute for advice from a licensed CDL instructor, FMCSA regulatory guidance, or official Texas DPS resources. AI responses may contain errors or outdated information. Always verify important decisions — such as program eligibility, testing requirements, or medical standards — with a Diesel Xtrem staff member or official government sources.
Usage Limits and Availability
DX AI is subject to daily and monthly usage limits to ensure fair access for all users. Guest users (not logged in) have a lower daily limit than enrolled students. If limits are reached, the feature will be temporarily unavailable. DX AI may also be placed in maintenance mode during platform updates. These limits are in place to manage costs and maintain service quality.
